There is a fun Christian song called, “Jesus is the hope when there is no hope.” It goes:
“Caught between a rock and a very hard place.
Running last In the big rat race.
There's little doubt I'm all washed out brother I'm in a jam
Quickly I look to left and
right theres not another
single living soul in sight. My backs to the wall
nobody to call but the great I am
Jesus is hope when there is no hope
He's waiting right there at the end of
my rope, I call on His name brother He's
the same whether night or day. He's never
gonna let me down I can feel His angels
all around. Jesus is hope when there is no hope
He'll make a way.
I don't have a paddle but I'm up a creek
now my boat just sprang a new leak out on a limb sink or swim really on the spot
I swallowed the lure and now I'm hooked there's no way out and my goose is cooked
Satan got my goat but he don't know about the hope I got.”
Hezekiah was the godly king of Judah. Israel has been destroyed by Assyria, and now they are knocking on Judah’s door. Historically, the People of God had zero chance militarily. This is greater than a David and Goliath situation. Judah is outnumbered and outgunned like they have never been in their history... and every nation to this point has fallen before the mighty Assyrians. Egypt, the other superpower, who had kept the Assyrians in check is weak and ineffective to do anything to defend themselves let alone Israel. To put it bluntly... they are trapped between a rock and a hard place!
Assyria’s king sends a letter to Hezekiah after already sending ambassadors... Judah will fall like all other nations. Judah’s God will fall like all other nations gods. Hezekiah spreads the letter before the Lord, and in complete dependence upon God ask the LORD to intervene. God does just that. An angel kills 185,000 soldiers... Judah doesn’t fire one arrow, or lift one sword. Assyria’s king is then assassinated, and he along with his entire nation learned that the God of Judah was not the same as the other deaf and dumb gods of the other nations... no He is the Most High God!
I don’t know what you are facing today, but take some time and ‘spread it before the LORD’. Express your inability, His ability, and your willingness to trust Him. Allow God’s name to be made great through your life as He gives you victories only He could give. If you are in a hard place, at the end of your rope, or in a jam... trust God.
