Has the Lord ever failed? In the nation of Israel, did He fail? For Noah did He fail? Did He fail the church? Has He failed you? Some might look at these questions and say, No God has never failed. Others may believe God has never failed, but at times feels like they have been failed.
In the thick of difficulties and struggles we can become so focused on the here and now that we miss the big picture of what God is trying to accomplish. We can fail to see the Lord taking the totality of our life and trying to accomplish something good.
I enjoy doing puzzles… I know I am weird. There comes a point during a puzzle where you look at the pieces and think, “this just isn’t worth the effort”. I could only imagine how frustrating the task would be if I had no idea what the picture was supposed to turn out as. The Christian life could be described as God throwing puzzle pieces your way and not showing you the complete picture. Each piece you gain adds more, but it is still incomplete. Sometimes the piece is received with great comfort, and it slides right into place (like the edge pieces… those are nice). Other times the pieces are hard to find placement… the cause grief and frustration at times. Know that each piece is working together to produce a picture of His grace.
Don’t grow weary of the pieces He slides your way. Some will be dark, obscure, and hard to place. Some will be full of detail and vibrancy and easy to find joy in. The complete picture only looks beautiful when all the pieces work together though. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28
No doubt Israel had gone through many dark days and many days of great joy. There were times of songs and times of heartache… times of death and times of new birth…. Times of defeat and times of victory. In the end, God accomplished all He set out to do with them in bringing them into the Land. Joshua 21:45 – “There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.”
Today you might be dealt a great piece or a difficult piece, just be willing to see God in it all working behind the scenes. He loves you and knows what is best for your life. Take this day, and with God’s grace and sufficiency place it into the puzzle of His masterpiece, your life.
