“Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.” – Psalm 147:1
When is the last time you praised? Maybe you praised a meal exclaiming, “wow! That was the best meal I have ever had!” Maybe it was praising a person, “whew! I don’t believe anyone can play basketball as good as you!” When is the last time you praised the Lord? Isn’t there plenty of things praiseworthy about Him?
We often block our day and life so rigidly that there are special times to do everything: time to sleep, time to work out, time to eat, time to work, time to worship. We box our time so efficiently that it would seem strange to many believers to praise outside the designated “praise time”.
Isaiah declares that Israel ought to praise the Lord, exalt His name, extol Him on high! His reason, because God had thrown down the enemies of God, primarily Babylon, and made its city an heap. Because God can cause victory, we ought to praise Him.
God has defeated a much more sinister enemy in our life... sin. He has utterly conquered it, and can give victory through His Blood to all who believe. Is that not something worthy of praise.
Read our text carefully today, and you will see that God will destroy all His enemies and rule victoriously. He is perfect, His strength is perfect, His judgment is perfect, and His love is perfect. He WILL destroy Satan, He has defeated sin, He will Rule and Reign! He is the KING, He is the LORD JEHOVAH, and He is the Everlasting Strength. He will lay waste the fallen system of this world, and establish His perfect kingdom!
We have MUCH to praise Him about!
The Scriptures often talk about the comeliness of praise for believers... it is fitting and right. They speak of the declaration of God’s power and goodness to the heathen and those who don’t know Him.
Are you one who praises God?
When is the last time you exalted His name spontaneously and heartily? It is easy to praise in the boxed time labeled ‘praise’ when a song leader prompts us to turn to such and such page... it is easy in the quite of the prayer closet.
Now, these are all good, right, and necessary... but we need praise to be a part of our everyday life.
So what about it... find a way to praise God today... “wow! What an awesome God I serve; He gave me victory over sin, Satan, and death, and one day He is Coming!”
