“Praise God, from whom all blessings flow! Praise Him, all creatures here below! Praise Him above, ye heavenly host! Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost!” – Doxology
I love when things work together perfectly. There is just something sweet and satisfying about a job well done that come together smoothly.
Recently, I was putting up a table for my wife to sew on. It was a little short, and so I wanted to add risers to make it the right height. In a small pile of scrap lumber I have, I found two pieces of wood that were not only identical in size to each other, but the exact size I needed (down to the 1/16 of an inch!). The wood was not only the right size, but I had the perfect straps and screws to affix the 1 foot long, flat legs of the table to the wood. It was a project that took no time at all… the wood, straps, and screws were made for it! They were the “perfect” fit. They were comely, appropriate, right, and fitting.
In like fashion, when we see a child of God praise God, we have to declare, “how fitting, right, appropriate, and comely!” It just makes sense, that a child of God would praise God.
To praise simple means to declare the worth of, to shout the value of, and to make clear how renown and wonderful something or someone is. I believe most of us know what it means to praise… to offer up an extreme complement or superlative towards someone. That is the greatest hit! We might say to a baseball player. That is one of the most beautiful hair cuts I have seen! We would exclaim to a lady with a new, nice hair do. To praise is to extol the value and worth of another… we just can’t help but declare good when we see it.
God is the epitome of Good! He is everything that is good, and there is no evil or bad in Him! We would be wise to hear the wisdom of Psalm 146-150 and praise the Lord with everything that is in us. Our voice, our talents, our labors, our singing, our activities, and even our inactivity should be seasoned with praise.
There is so much to praise the Lord for, and it is so comely and fitting for a child of God, saved by the grace of God to praise the Lord.
Take some time today and simply praise the Lord. Write down some things that are good about Him, sing some songs about His worth and value, and shout & dance before Him.
There is no posture more fitting and right to a child of God than being enraptured by God and driven to “Hallelujah” because of it.
