After the completion of the wall, a new task begins. The wall has been worked on and finished, but now the people themselves need work. Nehemiah will spend the remainder of the work in this more challenging task.
In Nehemiah 7 an interesting problem is revealed. They have a walled city, but there are not enough people in it to allow it function. Defenses are hard and life will be more challenging without an adequate population.
One thing the Lord has convicted me about of late is the command to GO and get people... to FILL His house. I too often get focused on the house of the Lord (facilities) instead of focused of getting people in that house.
During this time away from “normal” it has shown me the great need we have as a church to reach our community for Christ. You realize how much you take for granted when it is taken away! We have a great opportunity to reach our area… it will take all of us, and it will take work, but that is what God has called us to!
May the Lord help us to be people focused instead of task and ministry focused... to build up people, see folks saved, baptized, and discipled. We have a church building... now let’s go reach people for Jesus and fill it!
