Not for sale. My wife and I have a love for looking at other people’s junk and then giving them money for it... I am taking about garage sales. Inevitably, almost every time we go to garage sales we run into a sale where there is some stuff out that is “not for sale”. Usually it is some toy or kid item that one of their kids drug out.
Naboth was offered a ‘fair’ economic deal from Ahab to buy his vineyard. Naboth’s response reveals his stance on truth and tradition though... he said it was his inheritance. It had been in his family for generations and he wanted to pass it down to his kids. His family had likely planted that vineyard and Naboth knew the great worth of his inheritance before the Lord... sorry, “Not for Sale!” Jezebel got involved, and in the end Naboth was killed and Ahab god his garden. This was the final straw for God and he promised that dogs would eat Ahab’s family (which did happen!).
Like Naboth there are some things that need to be “not for sale” in our life. Some things given to us by God that we are unwilling to compromise or capitulate on. Our walk with God, devotion, faithfulness, holy living, morality, prayer, and so much more... it shouldn’t matter how much Satan and this world have to offer... say, “NO!”
Today, put the “not for sale” sign on your life and determine to live for God.
There is an excellent sermon by the title, “Not For Sale” by Ralph Sexton. It is by far one of the best and most influential sermon’s I have ever heard. I have put the link to the sermon down below... it is definitely worth a listen!
