Naysayers and those who discourage will always be around till Jesus comes. The question is, “do you listen to them?”
Isaiah records the message of Rabshakeh from Sennacherib the king of Assyria to Israel. The gist of his message was: surrender, you have no hope... you know you cannot win on your own and no one else is going to save you. Egypt is unreliable (true), and your God will fail like all the other nation’s gods (false).
The four emissaries of King Hezekiah pleaded with Rabshakeh to speak Syrian and not Hebrew, because they knew how disheartened the people would be... but Rabshakeh spoke even louder in Hebrew. His intention was clear, get them to surrender through discouragement without ever fighting.
We have an enemy, Satan, who is the same way. He sends his spokesmen to discourage the saints. He uses dirty tactics to fight unfair. If he can get you discouraged, he knows he has won. Satan loves to twist Scripture, and help shield our eyes from blessings… instead directing our attention to the negative things that have come our way.
Sometimes Satan doesn’t even have to get involved, our fallen flesh discourages us with internal conversations of defeat: “I can’t do this” “what is the point of trying” “nobody cares about me” “it is impossible” “I keep trying, and “this” is all I get for my effort”.
Maybe you feel inadequate. You feel your sin has to be too great for God, and your wretchedness is unredeemable. God loves you yet, and His grace is sufficient. Our flesh loves to tell us that we have lost, but God says we are more than conquers through Him!
May I humbly testify that our God is ABLE! His arm is not shortened nor his strength lacking supply to meet your needs. Have faith in God and do what He asked in the New Testament: Ask - it will be given, Seek - you will find, Knock - it will be opened.
There will always be those who try to discourage you... which voice is louder in your life God’s or the discouragers?
In the end, God destroyed the armies of Assyria and Sennacherib. All the other gods were unable to save their people, but JEHOVAH was able to destroy Assyria! God did it with ease! He can handle your problem… it doesn’t matter how big you think it is, He CAN handle it.
