The book of Esther is an interesting book, and an encouraging book. It is interesting because if focuses in on the life of one Israeli girl and her impact on saving the people of God. It is encouraging because it shows God’s love for His people.
Esther’s Hebrew name was Hadassah, and means beauty. The Persian name given to her; Ishtar, also mean beautiful. This helps understand that Esther was a very gorgeous woman who was very beautiful. God had given her this beauty to serve Him.
When Zerubbabel left for Israel, there were many Jews who stayed behind under the good king Cyrus’ rule. This story takes place among those Jews who stayed in Persia, and helps us get an insight of what their lives were like there.
This book truly helps us see that all things work together for good. It is almost like a scripted play, where the bad guy gets what coming to him and the hero wins big in the end.
The book is divided into two major sections:
1. The Danger of the scattered Jews – chapters 1-5
2. The deliverance of the scattered Jews – chapters 6-10
This historical book is one enjoyable read, and is an encouragement every time it comes up on my Bible reading.
