“Virtue and genuine graces in themselves speak what no words can utter.” – William Shakespeare
As a sophomore in college I had the opportunity to work for Bass Pro Shop in OKC. I enjoyed the experience, it was really my first time in “retail” and definitely opened my eyes to that world. During my time there I mainly worked as a cashier (I even got to be on TV once doing this, but that is another story!)
Fake money, was and is a problem, and they wanted to make sure we didn’t accept fake bills. I didn’t get a ton of training in counterfeit money and how to identify it, because they gave us a ‘cheat’ stick. It was a marker that you could run over a bill and if it turned black... it was a counterfeit. During my entire time there I never got one fake bill... bummer. Although I did see several people arrested for shoplifting, I never got to see a counterfeit.
We usually can spot fakes. Whether it is a knock off clothing brand, a wanna be food brand, or a blatant copyright infringement. Just as we can spot fake merchandise, we often can easily spot people who are fake in their walk with the Lord. I am not talking about people who are not saved... I am talking about those who have no spiritual walk with Christ.
Rehoboam was not the real deal, and the most telling of his actions was having bronze shields. The gold ones Solomon, his father, had made were taken... and so Rehoboam decided to create counterfeit fakes. It was evident to all that these were not the real gold shields, but rather knock offs. Just as the shields were fake, so too was Rehoboam... he had no walk with God and it reflected in all that he did.
Are you a fake? Do you claim to be Godly, but in reality you are spiritually bankrupt? If everyone saw your private world that only you and God know about, what would everyone see?
If you have been living a lie or telling yourself a lie then let’s get it right starting today! Today be genuine, today be sincere, today walk with God... forget those things in your past and press forward each day for the cause of Christ.
