Focus, we become focused on so many things in our life. A focus on work, finances, family… the list really is endless. Unfortunately, this focus often gets dialed in on the wrong things. Not necessarily that the things we focus on are wrong themselves, it is OUR FOCUS that makes them wrong. A recent study revealed that the average American spent between 4-6 hours a day on their phone, and that most people cannot go much longer than 10 minutes without looking at their phone. Social media has become ultra-accessible and now people spend an astronomical 2 hours 22 minutes on average daily scanning Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and the like.
Sports consume the focus of so much of some people’s times. Stats, averages, and records are watched, puzzled, and discussed. Kids activities, events, and extracurricular can become all consuming… our focus is demanded on the next little league game, the school program, or the next PTA meeting. Work can achieve the task of not only consuming our time but our focus as well. Coming home, we may bodily be present but our mind, attention… our focus is at the office. Satan seems to have successful achieved a constant state of static and noise in our life that effortlessly carries our hours away and our seconds down the drain. Everything seems to blur together, and priorities can seem fuzzy.
The well-meaning Child of God has every intention of being Holy and an equipped follower of Christ. And yet somehow we find our days get swallowed up. Frantically, we discover the day is gone and little to no time with God has been spent. There was never an intentional internal conversation that we had that said, “I will neglect God”, and yet we find our good intentions were just that… intentions. For many, it is not a lack of knowledge, we know we are supposed to read the Word, we know we are to pray, we know the benefit of time with God, we know the dangers of neglect. No our problem is not lack of knowledge, it is lack of FOCUS.
If you want to succeed as a Child of God, YOU NEED THE WORD OF GOD. Almost every Christian causality begins in one place, and likewise almost every spiritual victory commences from that same location. I am convinced that every child of God has been equipped with everything they need to succeed as a Christian at the moment of salvation. Though we could take time to examine each of these blessings, the one I am most concerned with is the Word of God. Your attitude, approach, and application of the Bible will determine your spiritual maternity or immaturity. Far too many Christians are anemic, spiritual weak and feeble, malnourished from withholding the necessary diet of God’s Word from their lives. If you are going to succeed as a Christian, and be all God ultimately wants you to be, you NEED the Word.
Will you commit to cutting through the noise of a busy life. Will you examine the great need you have of God. Will YOU join me this year as we get FOCUSED ON THE WORD.
