In the weight room at Springtown High School there was a poster which read, “the 10 most important 2 letter words: If it is to be, it is up to me”. For some reason this saying has always stuck with me.
I don’t believe God has called us to “go it alone”, have pride, or to be totally self focused. At the same time I understand the amazing dynamic of having the drive and “want to” in your spiritual life. A hunger and thirst for righteousness that can’t seem to be quenched. A desire to do more for God.
When asked what he wanted from God, Elisha prayed just for that... a double portion of what God used Elijah for. God had used Elijah to do some amazing things! Elisha, no doubt in humility and the right attitude, wants God’s double blessings. He watches Elijah get snatched up in what we would call a tornado and a flaming chariot snagging him up. The 50 preacher boys are so concerned they go looking in every ditch and mountain around for where he got flung! Elisha knew exactly where he went... he saw it, and God gave him a double portion. In his life, Elisha did double of everything Elijah did!
In a day when people are clamoring for money, fame, power, and more. You need to have a hunger to be righteous! Instead of a drive for power... have a heart for purity. Trade self-made man into selfless man who serves, like Christ did. Today, get a drive to be all you can be for God!
2 Kings 1 - 3
2 Kings 2:9
And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
