If you are not careful you can read through Chronicles and just breeze right past the list of names. Genealogies are important, but sometimes they seem intent on dissuading us from reading the Scriptures!
Each one of these difficult to pronounce and strange names represents a life. Some we have the stories from, some we only have their name. Some were good and godly, some were wicked and wayward. A life represented in each name... a potential for great good... a soul loved and uniquely created by God.
I pass people every day... hundreds of them. At Walmart I might have a cashier, “Stephen”. Later at the park I might pass a couple, “Richard and Amanda”, walking their dog. Names, people, souls created by God and deeply loved by Him! I often treat my encounters like I treat genealogies... just breeze past them and never be impacted or make an impact.
Currently, we are living in a weird time, and the normal encounters of life don’t happen. People seem driven by fear, and there is not only social distancing but often emotional distancing too. People seem lost, scared, and hopeless.
Soon things will resume to normal (or closer to it than we are now), and God will put some people in your path that He deeply loves. Don’t be so busy with ‘your’ day that you fail to minister to those God has placed in your path.
Even at church, purposefully go out of your way to get to know someone new... maybe you just know their name, there is a life attached to that name though, and God loves them!
